organic material (as opposed to dissolved organic material). It typically
includes the bodies or fragments of dead organisms as well as fecal
material. Detritus is typically colonized by communities of microorganisms
which act to decompose (or remineralize) the material. In terrestrial
ecosystems, it is encountered as leaf litter and other organic matter
intermixed with soil, which is referred to as humus. Detritus of aquatic
ecosystems is organic material suspended in water and piles up on seabed
floors which is referred to as marine snow."
Perfect. Anti music for anti people. A lot of it, in barely twelve minutes.
It's random and organic, and (de)composed of high-pitched feedback noise,
decaying, disappearing percussion (of sorts) and random screams. There's not
much to think about this thing, it's dead. It has no emotions, will to live,
warmth or sense. It has song titles and, probably, lyrics. Who cares. It has
a stupid cover too, forget about it. And it works. You can listen to it
anywhere, anyplace, anytime. These random acts of senseless violence can be used on your stereo, in your phone, in your car or on a stadium. It's
equally efficient whatever you want to do with it - scare off humans, bears,
mosquitoes - you name it, it's dead. It's well balanced in that you can hear
it all. It possesses the space, purifies it and stays lingering on the walls
after you're done. It relaxes you, pacifies you and stuns you. It never
repeats, you can listen to it as many times as you want, and you'll be none
the happier. Or depressed. Or whatever can be described. You'll be nothing.
Vacuum. Nature abhors the vacuum, though, and what you will be left with is
a space. Space you can fill with important things. If you are able to think
of any.
So, look at Collected Detritus as a test of strength. If you pass
it, you live and you can die. If not, you never lived and your death means
nothing. To anyone.
